NFPA Labels - When Standard Size Isn't Big Enough

Large Format RTK Labels

RTK labels typically come in sizes up to 4" x 6".  These serve the needs of most RTK labeling situations. But, sometimes it would be better to have a larger label (larger NFPA Diamond) that can be read from a distance.  For example, larger NFPA Diamond RTK labels are used on drums, tanks, vats, pipes and other large containers.

DuraLabel has created, and is the only supplier of large format RTK die cut labels.  That are available in sizes up to 6.8" x 10.5".  That's nearly three times the size of a standard 4" x 6" RTK label.  The image to the left shows a 4" x 6" RTK label compared with a larger 6.8" x 10.5" label, with both on a drum.  The greater visibility of the larger label is obvious.


These super-size RTK die-cut labels look just like the smaller labels, and they are printed in the same way.  A larger printer, such as the DuraLabel 7000 or DuraLabel 9000 is needed to print these large format labels.

A problem that firefighters have brought out is that typical NFPA diamonds can be hard for them to read.  In addition to the size of the label, firefighters have noted that the black printing on a red or blue background, in the diamond, does not provide much contrast.  Notice that DuraLabel NFPA diamond labels have a white circle with each of the colored areas of the diamond. This white area makes it very easy to read the number in each section of the NFPA diamond.
